Shelling? Rare earthquake shakes E. Ukraine, felt as far as Russian border

An earthquake in the eastern Ukrainian port city of Mariupol caused a mild panic amongst the residents, with some believing the shaking was being caused by renewed shelling around the city.
The epicenter of the 4.8 magnitude earthquake, which had a depth of 10 kilometers, was around two kilometers west of the city, according to the US Geological Survey.
In videos released on social media, local residents discuss what really happened. They speculated if it was in fact powerful shelling or gunfire.
People in eastern Ukraine have been on high alert since Kiev launched a military operation in the region after parts of the Donetsk and Lugansk regions refused to recognize the new coup-appointed government in April 2014. Mariupol is not part of the self-proclaimed People’s Donetsk Republic and is under Kiev’s control.
