Japan: Fukushima wounds still deep, five years on
Japan’s Emperor Akihito led the tributes, five years on from the Fukushima disaster on Friday, but for those who lived through it, the wounds have far from healed. Prime Minister Shinzo Abe also paid his respects at a memorial ceremony in Tokyo as across the country people bowed their heads in silence at exactly 2:46 pm local time. Flags at central government buildings were at half-mast, some draped in black.
All the trains on Tokyo’s vast underground paused for a minute. It was 2:46 pm on Friday, March 11, 2011, when a magnitude 9 earthquake struck, triggering a tsunami and the world’s worst nuclear disaster since Chernobyl in 1986.
Deadly waves gushed in along the northeast coast, with devastating consequences. Nearly 20,000 people were killed. More than 160,000 others were forced to flee their homes as the tsunami also crippled the Fukushima . Dai-ichi Nuclear Plant, where meltdowns in three reactors spewed radiation over a wide area of the countryside, contaminating water, food and air. Billions have been spent to help stricken communities. But thousands of people are still languishing in temporary housing with some areas remaining no-go zones due to high radiation.

Russia US: Former Putin aide Lesin died of 'head injuries'
A former aide to Russian President Vladimir Putin, who was found dead in a US hotel four months ago died of head injuries, US coroners say. Mikhail Lesin, 57, also had blunt force injuries to the neck, torso, arms and legs, Washington DC's chief medical examiner said. However the examiner did not conclude how the injuries had been sustained.
At the time, Russian media had reported Lesin's death in Washington as a suspected heart attack. Lesin was for a long time considered one of the most influential figures in the Russian media scene and in the corridors of power. He was a former Russian press minister and once headed the powerful Gazprom-Media Holding group. He was found dead on 5 November 2015 in the Dupont Circle Hotel. It is unclear why he was in Washington but several family members were resident in the US and had business interests there.

France tests world's largest cruise ship
Harmony of the Seas, the world's largest cruise ship, has begun its first sea trial in western France. Thousands of people gathered to watch in the port of Saint-Nazaire as the 70m (230ft) high vessel was guided out to sea by six tugs on Thursday. The 120,000-tonne vessel is expected to be delivered to the US-based firm in two months. The trial will continue until Sunday.
