GEORGIA - Cinque arresti in Georgia per contrabbando di uranio
In Georgia, cinque persone sono state arrestate mentre tentavano di smerciare più di un kg di uranio.
Secondo gli inquirenti, soltanto lo 0,2 % era uranio 235, l'isoltopo adatto ad essere utilizzato per costruire bombe.
I sospetti intendevano vendere il materiale fissile per l'equivalente di oltre 2,5 milioni di euro.

SIRIA - Le forze governative bombardano Aleppo. Distrutto ospedale di MSF
Le forze governative siriane hanno bombardato Aleppo distruggendo anche un ospedale situato in una zona della città controllata dagli oppositori di Bashar al-Assad. Secondo l'Organizzazione non governativa Medici Senza Frontiere, che gestisce la struttura, le vittime sarebbero almeno 27. Tra i morti figurerebbero 3 medici, fra cui un pediatra, uno dei pochi rimasti nella città.

Lithuanian police are using military drones to scout for illegal alcohol distillery points in the country’s woods.
They are seen as a big problem in Lithuania which is the largest consumer of alcohol in the EU.
There were 500 investigations last year alone.

ITALY - Costa Concordia captain appeal begins
The appeals trial is to begin in Italy of the captain held responsible for the 2012 Costa Concordia cruise ship disaster in which 32 people were killed. Francesco Schettino was given 16 years in jail, after he was guilty of manslaughter, causing a maritime accident and abandoning ship.

GENEVA - EU 'concerned' about Austria's fence along border with Italy
The European Union's executive arm says it is concerned that Austria is building a border fence and control station at the country's main Alpine crossing to Italy. The project is scheduled to be completed by the end of May.
UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon told Austria's parliament on Thursday (April 28) that he was alarmed at the growing xenophobia in the country.

Sister of jailed pilot now back in Ukraine
Officials in Kyiv say the sister of jailed pilot Nadezdha Savchenko is now back in Ukraine after she was detained on the Russian border. Border guards reportedly stopped Vira Savchenko as she was trying to cross back into Ukraine in a diplomatic car. She had been in Russia for a court hearing for her sister's case. Her passport was confiscated, but has now been returned. Nadezdha Savchenko has reportedly abandoned a hunger-strike due to reports that a prisoner-swap is being negotiated.

BRUSSELS - MEPs warn Turkey over visa deal
MEPs have warned Turkey that they won't just rubber-stamp a deal to give the country's citizens visa-free travel in Europe. The debate took place on Thursday at the European Parliament in Brussels. The offer formed part of an EU migration deal with Turkey to stop migrants reaching Europe's shores. Brussels offered money for refugees in Turkey and to scrap visas for Turkish citizens. But EU governments still need to give the final green light.

Lawyers acting for a Ukrainian pilot jailed in Russia say a procedure to extradite her has begun.
Nadezhda Savchenko was sentenced to 22 years in jail on March 22.
