The strain of bird flu found on a Yorkshire duck farm is the same as that identified in the Netherlands and Germany. A cull of 6,000 ducks has now begun to try and rid the farm of the H5N8 strain. The Government says the risk to the public remains "very low". "As part of our robust action in response to the confirmed case of avian flu, the culling of 6,000 ducks on the affected farm in East Yorkshire is under way," a Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) spokesman said.
