VENEZUELA - Students skip school due to food shortages

A shortened school week was part of a government plan to save electricity during Venezuela’s power crisis, but now it’s the country’s food shortages that are keeping students away.
A poll of 3,000 children in Caracas showed that school attendance is down to 51 percent; one-third of those polled said they were eating once a day, while half were going to bed hungry.
