SPACE - Indian space shuttle makes first test flight
India has successfully launched an experimental spacecraft it hopes will form the basis of its own re-usable space shuttle. ISRO launched the vehicle on a rocket from its facility north of Chennai. The $15 million dollar test craft was carried to an altitude of 70 kilometers after which it reentered the Earth's atmosphere, exposing it to temperatures up to 2000 degrees Celsius.
