CHILE - Security guard dies during violent student protests in Valparaiso
A security guard, Eduardo Lara, has died after suffocating when the building he was protecting was set ablaze, reportedly by a Molotov cocktail, during student protests in Valparaiso on Saturday. Police and protesters fought violent, running battles, with the police firing volleys of teargas and spraying protesters with a water cannon, who in turn threw rocks and other projectiles at the officers. The protests were called when students and education workers are demanding that the education reforms promised by the government under Chilean President Michelle Bachelet are implemented.
