6.4 quake strikes southwest Japan
A 6.4 magnitude earthquake has struck east of Kumamoto, Japan, according to the National Meteorological Agency.
The US Geological Survey (USGS) put the quake at a 6.0 magnitude, stating that it had a depth of 23.3 kilometers (14.47 miles).
The quake's epicenter was located eight kilometers (4.97 miles) from the city of Tamana.
There were no immediate reports of casualties or damage.
The National Meteorological Agency originally issued a tsunami warning, but later canceled it.
