Hong Kong ferry incident leaves scores injured - BBC News

                        

At least 124 people were injured when a high-speed ferry travelling to Hong Kong from Macau hit an object in the water, say officials.
The ferry, with 174 passengers and crew on board, lost power close to Lantau island, at about 18:00 local time (10:00GMT) and began taking on water. Marine police boats were sent to rescue the passengers, with local media saying many had injuries to limbs and faces. Some passengers waited on board to be rescued for several hours.

Inside the permafrost 'time tunnel' - BBC News

                      

Scientists are increasingly concerned about the potential for permafrost to thaw in a warming world. This permanently frozen layer of earth contains huge amounts of methane that could exacerbate climate change if the gas leaches into the atmosphere. 
To help study the issue, the US Army Corp of Engineers has built a tunnel into permafrost near Fairbanks, Alaska. It allows researchers to travel back in time to see how permafrost impacted the Earth over the past 40,000 years.

Dozens of fatalities and hundreds of injuries have been reported following a 7.5 magnitude earthquake that hit in northern Afghanistan, Pakistan and India. There are fears the reported death toll will rise.

7.7 earthquake hits Afghanistan, Pakistan & India

A 7.7-magnitude earthquake has struck northern Pakistan, US Geological Survey said. The tremor was felt in the capital, Islamabad, AP reported.

Tremors were also felt in Afghanistan's capital, Kabul, shaking buildings there, Reuters reports citing local witnesses.

Tremors sent locals running from their homes in Delhi, India.
