Sunscreen myths
With the summer season in full swing, Canadians are enjoying the sun wherever they can find it, but skin cancer experts are warning that some of the prevailing myths around sun exposure and sun protection can be dangerous. An older myth that still persists is the misguided idea that having a "base tan" reduces the need for sunscreen. "Base tan is not a term dermatologists use," said Dr. Cheryl Rosen of the dermatology clinic at the Toronto Western Hospital. "What it really means is getting sun damage to allow yourself to get more sun damage later."

FRANCE - 2 blasts rock oil refinery in southern France 10km from Marseille Airport
Two blasts have rocked a petrochemical plant in Bouches-du-Rhône department in southern France, authorities say. The explosion occurred close to Marseille Provence Airport, the fifth-busiest in the country.
"Two tanks, 500 meters apart from each other and filled with chemicals, are affected," a source close to the investigation told France’s press. The first tank contained gasoline and the second had naphtha, a flammable liquid hydrocarbon mixture. Some 120 firefighters were immediately dispatched at the scene. Authorities say they have implemented special measures to prevent possible hydrocarbon pollution of the town and nearby communities. A"preventive dam" was installed in the city near the plant to prevent hydrocarbon pollution related to fire-fighting water.

Facebook post lands Australian woman in UAE prison
A female Australian artist was arrested and jailed in Abu Dhabi for “writing bad words on social media,” after reportedly posting a picture of a car parked across two disabled parking spots on Facebook. Jodi Magi, 39, was arrested by United Arab Emirates police and put into prison, after being found guilty of “writing bad words on social media about a person,” ABC reported.
“No one is talking to me, no one is telling me what’s going on,” Magi said. “And they were about to put me in male lock-up and then they turned me away – no one knows what to do with me. I’m pretty scared.”
Magi reportedly took a picture of a car parked across two parking spots for the disabled, but with no permit stickers visible. When posting the image to Facebook, she blackened out the license plate number and did not mention any names.
